US ready to sign Ukraine minerals deal, Trump administration says | BBC News
Duration: 6:17
The US is ready to sign a minerals deal with Ukraine "this afternoon", says Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Both sides made some "last-minute changes" to the deal last night, but he adds "it's the same agreement that we agreed to on the weekend”. Ukraine's economy minister Yulia Svyrydenko is flying to Washington to sign the deal, the country's prime minister confirms. A draft of the deal, seen by the BBC, creates a joint US-Ukraine government investment fund to prospect for critical minerals in Ukraine. The initial agreement was due to be signed in February but fell apart following a heated exchange between US President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
