Trump marks 100 days in office with plunging public approval ratings | BBC News
Duration: 15:11
Within hours of taking his second oath of office, Donald Trump signed a flurry of executive orders and declarations, and fired the starting gun on what has been a rapid and radical programme of change in his first 100 days. Trump announced sweeping global tariffs on goods entering the US. But he has reacted to tanking global markets by announcing tariff pauses and has signalled he is seeking to make a deal with China. His administration is pursuing an immigration crackdown which is popular with many voters. But judges are repeatedly telling the White House that its actions may be in breach of the law. Elon Musk’s efforts to cut the size of the US federal government have had a mixed reception. Many elected Republicans have stopped holding open meetings for constituents, known as town halls, after being confronted by angry voters who are worried about cuts to their pensions or government-funded healthcare. President Trump had declared he could end the Ukraine war in a day. However his attempts to push Ukraine’s President Zelensky and Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin into agreeing a ceasefire has yet to succeed. The opinion polls suggest Mr Trump has become the most unpopular US leader of the last 80 years, at this 100 day marking point in his presidency.
